A Sacred Barge Journey in Southeast Asia
With Bruce and Reva Tift
Cambodia and Vietnam, October 20 to 30, 2027
Reva and I will be teaching aboard the barge Toum Tiou II on the Mekong Delta in October 2027, traveling through Cambodia and Vietnam with Peak Empowerment.
When Franco and Kay invited me to teach for this retreat, openness suddenly arose. Surprise, doubt, excitement. My hope is that the journey will be a continuing return to moments of openness, with all the complex feelings that come with fresh not-knowing.
The quality of our experiencing is deeply influenced by how we understand and engage with what is continually arising in awareness. From a non-dual view, our ordinary daily life is inseparable from always present open awareness. This simultaneity invites us to engage intimately in our messy human lives as they are. With practice we might become familiar with finding ourselves in the groundless middle of irresolvable contradictory experiencing. We want the peace of acceptance and we want the benefit of improvement. We want to protect our vivid sense of being a significant self, and we never find this objectively existing self.
I will offer teaching sessions over the ten days. Reva, drawing on more than forty years of work as a psychotherapist focused on grief and loss, will host informal discussions on grief, aging, and death.
The journey weaves teaching with cultural excursions through traditional Khmer and Vietnamese villages, visits with local monks, and long open afternoons on the deck of the barge.
This will be a unique opportunity to explore fresh experiencing, both outer and inner. If this speaks to you, I hope you’ll join us.
